The School of Public Health, NCU was founded in 2002. Its predecessor was Department of Preventive Medicine, Jiangxi Medical College which was founded in 1959. The school consists of five departments, among which there are eleven teaching and research sections and a laboratory teaching center, a research institute of preventive medicine, a Center for Evidence-based Medicine, a public health skills training centre.

The school offers preventive medicine, medical laboratory technology, health inspection&quarantine and other undergraduate programs. The school has a first level doctoral degree authorization point in Public Health & Preventive Medicine Science, a first level master's degree authorization point in two disciplines (Public Health & Preventive Medicine Science and MPH) and a second level master's degree authorization point in two disciplines (Social Medicine & Health Service Management and Clinical Laboratory Diagnosis).

Currently the school has a staff of 61 members, among whom 9 are professors, 13 associate professors, and 1 "Distinguished Professor" from The United States.  Among the 42 full-time teachers, 24 are doctors. The in-campus enrollments include 716 undergraduates and 232 graduate students.
